Description

This is the C.P.E. Bach Cantabile movement from the Sonata in B minor W. 55/3.  As played by György Cziffra on his 1958 recording for EMI France.

Cziffra based his solo piano version closely on the version for two pianos by Johannes Doebber.  That may be one reason why Cziffra never published his arrangement.

I love this piece, and the only transcription I could find online had several mistakes so I notated it myself from the recording as exactly as I could.  There are a couple of places where I made small changes which I thought resulted in better voice leading.  But I marked anywhere that I diverged from Cziffra’s playing.  I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I do!

  1. Dear Independent Pianist,

I recently tried to buy the C.P.E. Bach/Cziffra Sonata in B minor from your website.
My credit card was charged twice (8.00 both times) and I am unable to download/print.
I hope you can send me what a purchased through my email.
The checkout part of your website doesn’t seem to be working.

Please let me know when this can be handled.

    Thank you,
    Corbin
